Adopt a book

Over the course of its long history, the Montserrat Library has established one of Catalonia’s most significant private collections of manuscripts, incunabula, books, engravings and maps.

Storing and preserving this knowledge is costly; researchers must be able to examine the works and the works in turn must be preserved in good condition for future generations.

Some documents are, unfortunately, in an advanced state of deterioration due mainly to their age or the fragility of the materials used in their creation.

With the book adoption programme, you can help to preserve the cultural and literary heritage contained with in the Montserrat Library. If you so wish, you may take part both in restoring the works and in the growth of the collections. As a result, anyone wishing to do so may play a leading role in preserving the existing cultural heritage of the Library.

Depending on the work in question, conservation and restoration costs can very considerably, ranging from 100 to 6,000 euros. Support for new acquisitions starts at 50 euros. You may yourself choose from among the documents in need of restoration or ask us for advice on a suitable book to adopt.

Recognition by the Library of your contribution can take various forms, depending on the amount donated. You may be provided with a certificate bearing the name and title of the document you have adopted; there may be a Library bookplate bearing the name of the contributor with in the book, or you may be offered a commented visit to the Library.

If you are interested in adopting a book, please contact with us so that we may attend to your request. Please remember that all contributions may be tax deductible.
